QuoVadis Earns WebTrust for Certification Authorities Seal of Assurance
20 Mar 2006

QuoVadis, a leading international information security provider, today announced it has received the WebTrust for Certification Authorities (CA) Seal of Assurance.  Awarded to QuoVadis after an independent examination by Ernst & Young, the certification signifies compliance with industry-accepted standards for issuing and managing digital certificates.

“As the value and sensitivity of online transactions grows, security and accountability are more important than ever before” said Walter Cooke, chief security officer for QuoVadis.  “QuoVadis provides managed technologies that allow our clients to cost-effectively introduce good online security, privacy, and data integrity.  We also have the experience and critical mass needed to operate those security measures in compliance with rigorous standards like WebTrust.”

The WebTrust programme was established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) as a way to increase public confidence in digital certificate technology, which is widely used to increase the reliability and security of online transactions.

“As online security providers, it is critical for Certification Authorities to build trust and confidence among users of their digital certificates” said George Holland of Ernst & Young’s Technology and Security Risk Services group.  “QuoVadis’ WebTrust seal demonstrates that they comply with the globally-established controls and standards for their sector.”

Founded in Bermuda in 1999, QuoVadis provides managed identity and business continuity services to multinational companies and the public sector, including an array of insurance companies and banks as well as the Bermuda Government.  In 2005, the company set up operations in both Switzerland and New Zealand to better serve its global clientele.

The WebTrust certification covers QuoVadis’ entire Certification Authority operations.  QuoVadis provides outsourced technology and procedures that allow clients to issue high reliance digital certificates to their employees, customers, and partners.  Digital certificates are a highly secure form of electronic ID that can be used to authenticate users online and to create legally binding electronic signatures that protect the integrity of electronic data.

In addition to its WebTrust seal, QuoVadis has been an Authorised Certification Services Provider (CSP) since 2001, entitled to issue accredited certificates which meet the high standards for authentication and electronic signatures under Bermuda law.  QuoVadis is also currently pursuing the equivalent Qualified Certification Service Provider status in Switzerland in compliance with the European Telecommunications Standards Initiative (ETSI) standards recognised by more than 25 counties.
